AN INTRODUCTION TO THE COLLECTION

Welcome to the Blaschke Art Collection!

More than 200 fine examples of early 20th century German and other European Impressionist and Expressionist original graphics were brought out to New Zealand by refugees Alfons and Marie Blaschke in the early 1950s.

We show here more than forty of these striking works by a variety of artists including famous names such as Max Liebermann, Käthe Kollwitz, Edvard Munch and Max Slevogt.

As a counterpart to the original German graphics, the Blaschkes also collected some 250 high-quality reproductions of the German and Dutch Old Masters, including Albrecht Dürer, Rembrandt, Martin Schongauer, and Hendrick Golzius, as well as many of their contemporaries. Eight of these reproductions are included in the selection here.

The Blaschke Art Collection is now owned and managed by the Alfons and Marie Blaschke Art Trust.  Through this website the Collection is now available to the public as well as to gallery and other art professionals to assess its potential for public exhibition and as an educational and research resource. The Trust welcomes enquiries through this website.

Enjoy!
